Private yoga lessons in Amsterdam, Central.

What is vinyasa yoga, restorative yoga, physiyoga, and yoga nidra?

  • Vinyasa yoga uses your breath to string together a unique sequence of poses, creating fluid movement. Classes are typically different each time and can be tailored to your body’s needs, adjusting the pace and complexity of the poses with props.

  • Restorative yoga is a passive form of yoga where your body is supported on yoga props (i.e., blocks, blankets, bolsters, etc). Like its name, restorative yoga aims to calm the active fight-or-flight system, also known as the sympathetic nervous system, and activate the rest-and-digest system, also known as the parasympathetic nervous system. This is perfect for when you are stressed and need help relaxing.

  • Physiyoga* merges concepts of physical therapy and yoga. Using techniques that involve muscular release, strength building, and breathwork can assist with better body awareness and rehabilitation from injury.

  • Yoga Nidra, also known as “yogic sleep,” is a guided meditation to promote rest and relaxation. During yoga nidra, you are in a state between being awake and sleeping, moving through a series of exercises only using your mind to help you dive deeper into your inner self.

MY BACKGROUND STORY

Yoga teacher offering vinyasa yoga in Amsterdam, Netherlands

Yoga has been instrumental in helping me become who I am today. But, my relationship with yoga was not love at first sight. I was intimidated by people more flexible than me, and I was caught up with what others thought of me. After several years, however, I eventually experienced a glimpse of the essence of yoga--I was able to let go of my insecurities, tap into my breath, and honor what my body was capable of doing.

Practicing yoga for over a decade now has led me to improve my self-awareness, develop a healthier body image, and become more patient. It also helped me get comfortable with quietness, decreasing the need for external stimulation. As a yoga teacher, I aim to put forth the same intentions as my teachers do with me - meeting my students with compassion, knowledge, and equality.

I have been teaching yoga since 2012, having completed several teacher trainings in New York City. I completed my 200-hour teacher training at OM Yoga with Cyndi Lee, Frank Mauro, Edward Jones, and Joe Miller. I completed my 300-hour advanced teacher training at Yogamaya with Bryn Chrisman, Stacey Brass-Russell, Anna Greenberg, and faculty, which included training in restorative yoga and yoga nidra. I am also a physiyoga professional through the ThreesPhysiyoga Method.

Learning never ends and I am constantly inspired by my family, friends, and teachers around the world.
